I consider my work to be a combination of sculpture and performative photography. I have become interested in exploring materials and their significance of meaning within certain contexts. I am particularly concerned with the emotional responses that certain materials provoke. I have knitted or crocheted a range of masks, which embody a variety of conflicting ideas such as comfort, beauty, fear and distortion. These masks have been worn in a variety of performance situations, which have then been photographed. The scenarios are often informed by mythology, literature or dreams. The characters appear to be possessed or engaged in some sort of ritual.
