September 2006

Leeds art collective Black Dogs present Wager Slaves, a series of bizarre games, devious ploys and unusual services involving a dog racing track, Ebay and Betting.com.

On the opening night of the exhibition the artists will make a trip from the gallery to a local dog track and place live bets from tips suggested by the gallery audience, who will have the chance to join the artists at the races.

A painfully convoluted process of financial transactions and wagers involving the proceeds will ensue.

The resulting balance will be transformed, as if by the hands of a great yet deluded conjuror, into something resembling an art exhibition. On the final day of the show the audience are invited to join the artists as they sell off the art and gamble the cash online, all on the black of the roulette wheel. If successful they will invite the audience to help them drink the profits at a local pub.

Black Dogs ask: What’s the art? You decide.
