Recent Paintings and Drawings, Patrick Bridge
8 – 23 July 2006
For his exhibition at Bloc in July Patrick Bridge presents new drawings, portrait and still life paintings.
Discarded and defunct objects from amongst the clutter of the artist’s studio have been selected as subject matter: an abandoned heater, a coffee percolator; an old, obsolete computer.
Bridge describes his works as depicting ‘minor melancholic dramas’. He elaborates: “I painted what was in front of me. And what was in front of me changed, things that had seemed to me robust became fragile and pointless”.
The paintings, rendered with a level of sensitivity that suggests a close relationship with these abandoned objects, form part of the artist’s ongoing exploration of the emotive power of paint.
