Parafailure is an approximation of the optical illusion ‘Pepper’s Ghost’. In the INTERSTELLAR version the relective image of a corridor scene dissolves into the transmissive image of an outdoor scene featuring a group of leafy bushes. The transition occures approximately every minute.
The architecture of the optical effect achieved in this work required a large half-silvered mirror (one-way mirror) and two incandescent light bulbs fixed to illuminate opposing sides of the mirror.
